Check-In Check-Out is to help your student will work on their goals every single day broken down by class period. Check-In Check-Out (CICO) has been shown to vastly improve students' success in school. In fact, 98% of students who utilize this tool have not needed additional support after just six weeks!
The process is easy. First, students are identified by teachers as needing extra support. Next, they are matched with a staff member with whom they don't currently have a relationship or a school counselor. Once the student and staff are matched, they will work together to develop up to three goals to work on during the day. These goals will center around why they were recommended for a CICO mentor.
The student will meet with their mentor at the beginning of the day as a reminder of what goals they are working on and identify any potential barriers to achieving these goals and discuss a solution. They will carry their CICO goal sheet to each of their teachers during the day to collect feedback on their goals. The teacher will indicate whether they achieved their goal or if there is room for improvement. At the end of the day, the student will again meet with their mentor to discuss how they did, discuss what went wrong, and most importantly, celebrate what went right.
Parents, this is where you come in. This card will come home at the end of every day for you to look at, sign, and send back to school. We want you to be, but it is not required, an active part of the team helping your student to succeed. The constant feed back and discussion of the goals is great for students of all ages. The CICO mentor can also implement a reward system for the child as well.
Please contact Ms. Lemke if you would like more information or if you feel like your child would benefit from the CICO program to further discuss.
